Waterfall Hiking Tour in Kiso

-木曽の滝-

The Kiso River runs directly through the base of the Kiso Valley. It is a stunning river with huge granite boulders and it is a beautiful hue of green blue. However, much more stunning than the Kiso River itself, are the small tributaries that join it. This tour is a chance for people hiking in the summer to take a day off from the heat and cool down in some of the best swimming spots of the local rivers.

What is this tour?

This tour has no set itinerary. To decide the itinerary I will need to know your hiking ability, if you are looking to swim, where is good on that particular day, and what you would prefer to see. I will take you to local spots where we can cool off in the rivers and see some of the most stunning waterfalls in Japan. Among the options are Atera Gorge, Kakizore Gorge, and Tadachi Waterfalls (currently inaccessible due to landslips).

What will we do?

Meeting in the morning, we will travel to the start point and head off to the waters. Some spots are more crowded than others, and we will avoid the crowds. As a general rule the day will include hiking, visiting waterfalls, swimming in natural pools, and a bento lunch at some point along the way.

Points of caution:

  • Even in the high summer, the rivers of the Kiso region are cold. If you do not like cold water, this is not for you.

  • Rivers are inherently dangerous. Please only sign up if you are a strong swimmer. I am not a Life Saver, you join at your own risk.

  • Often rain makes the rivers too powerful and dangerous. In these conditions, an alternative plan will be suggested or the tour will be cancelled.
